What brake pads actually do
Brake pads are the part that presses against the brake disc (rotor) to slow your car down. Every time you brake, the pads wear down a little bit. That’s normal, but once they get too thin, braking distance can increase and damage can happen fast.
Replacing brake pads at the right time helps keep your car safe, protects your brake discs and gives you a smoother pedal feel.
Common signs you need brake pads replaced
- Squealing or high-pitched noise when braking
- Grinding sound (often means pads are worn right down)
- Brake pedal feels soft, spongy, or different than normal
- Car takes longer to stop
- Vibration when braking (could also be discs/rotors)
- Warning light on the dash (in some vehicles)
If you’re noticing any of the above, book in soon. It’s usually a quick fix when caught early. Contact us here.
Our brake pads replacement service
We replace brake pads the right way, not rushed, not guesswork. We’ll inspect the brake system first, then fit quality pads suited to your vehicle and driving style.
- Brake inspection (front or rear)
- Remove wheels and check pads, discs/rotors, calipers and hardware
- Replace pads and clean/prepare contact points
- Road test and safety check
If we see something else that needs attention (like worn brake discs or leaking fluid), we’ll explain it all before we do anything extra.

How long brake pads replacement takes
In many cases, brake pads can be replaced in around 60-120 minutes depending on the vehicle. Some cars take longer (especially European models or vehicles with electronic parking brakes).
If you’re doing both front and rear, or if the discs/rotors need replacing too, we’ll let you know the expected time when you book.
Why Brake Pads Replacement Matters
Brakes are the most important safety system on your car. Worn pads can reduce stopping power, cause noise and wear out other parts like discs/rotors and calipers.
Replacing pads early usually saves money and keeps everything running.
Pair Brake Pads With the Right Services
Depending on what we find, you may also benefit from:
- Brake fluid flush (helps keep pedal feel firm and protects the system)
- Brake disc/rotor machining or replacement (if discs are worn or warped)
- Wheel alignment (good after suspension or tyre work)
- Tyres (safe stopping needs good tyres too)
If you just want the pads done, no problem, we’ll keep it straightforward.
Brake Pads Replacement for Petrol and Diesel Vehicles
We replace brake pads on petrol and diesel vehicles, including daily drivers, family SUVs, tradie vans and performance cars. We also service many European makes.
If you’re not sure whether you need front, rear, or both, we can inspect and confirm.
Quick FAQ
How often do brake pads need replacing?
It depends on driving style and conditions, but many cars need pads somewhere around 30,000-80,000 km. City driving and heavy braking can wear pads faster.
Can I drive with squeaky brakes?
Sometimes squeaking is just dust or pad material, but it can also be a warning. If the noise is getting worse or you feel changes in braking, book an inspection.
Do you replace brake discs/rotors too?
Yes. If the discs are below minimum thickness, warped, or damaged, we’ll recommend the right fix. We’ll always explain options before doing extra work.
What’s the difference between front and rear brake pads?
Many cars wear front pads faster because the front brakes do more stopping work. Rear pads can still wear out, especially on SUVs, performance cars, or vehicles with electronic parking brakes.
